It’s almost the best time of the year! And no, we’re not talking about the days when you get to nap. It’s almost Christmas! The Christmas season is a time of joy, reflection, and connection—but sometimes it goes by so fast that we wish we had more time to really enjoy it. This year, why not make Advent a special time for your family? Introducing the Advent Journey, our free Advent calendar for 2024! It’s a simple and fun way for families to gather together and reflect on the amazing story of God’s love, hope, and presence during the weeks before Christmas.

The Advent Journey isn’t just a calendar—it’s a deck of cards that guide you through daily readings, simple questions, and meaningful activities that will help bring your family closer during the Christmas season.

Each card includes four different prompts:
  • Read a passage of Scripture together.
  • Share your thoughts, experiences, and hopes for the Advent season with a daily prompt.

Hello Wallenpaupack Church Family! As November begins, we enter a season that invites us to reflect on gratitude, prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving, and focus on God’s faithfulness as we approach the end of the year. Here are 10 verses to keep close this month, along with a few thoughts on how they can guide us in everyday life. Whether you’re sharing a family meal, navigating the challenges of work, or simply taking time to pray, these verses are here to remind us of God’s enduring presence and promises.

 #1. Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When life gets overwhelming, this verse reminds us to bring our worries to God in prayer. November, with its focus on Thanksgiving, is a perfect time to embrace a heart of gratitude even in the face of challenges.

#2. Psalm 100:4
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday – it’s a lifestyle of acknowledging God’s goodness. Psalm 100 reminds us that thankfulness is our gateway to God’s presence, so let’s start each day this month with a grateful heart.

#3. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 

Gratitude isn’t just for the good days; God calls us to give thanks in *all* circumstances. This verse reminds us that our daily joy and gratitude are God’s will for us. No matter what each day holds, we can rejoice in His faithfulness.

# 4. Psalm 23:1-3
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”

With life’s fast pace, we often need a reminder to slow down and let God lead. Psalm 23 reminds us that He guides, provides, and refreshes us. As we step into this month, let’s lean on His guidance and rest in His care.

# 5. Hebrews 13:16
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

November is often filled with opportunities to give, especially as we prepare for the holidays. Hebrews 13:16 calls us to live generously, remembering that our kindness and compassion bring joy to God’s heart.

# 6. Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

As we plan and prepare for the holiday season, this verse encourages us to rely on God’s wisdom, not just our own. Trusting God’s guidance in both big and small decisions this month can lead us to peace and clarity.

# 7. 1 Chronicles 16:34
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

It’s easy to be thankful when things are going well, but 1 Chronicles 16:34 invites us to focus on God’s character – He is good, and His love is unchanging. This truth helps us to find joy and gratitude, no matter the season.

# 8. James 1:17
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

James reminds us that all our blessings come from God. As we reflect on what we’re thankful for this month, let’s remember that each good thing in our lives is a gift from our unchanging Father.

# 9. Colossians 3:15-17
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful... And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Colossians calls us to live out of peace and gratitude. In all our daily actions, from work to family time, we are invited to honor Christ. This verse is a reminder to live each day with a thankful heart and let Christ’s peace guide our interactions.

# 10. Psalm 107:1
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

Psalm 107 is a call to thanksgiving, and it’s one worth repeating. When we focus on God’s love, which never fades, we find joy that goes beyond our circumstances. This verse is a beautiful daily reminder of His enduring goodness.
